“I would recommend Pick Protection’s solutions without hesitation. Adding this solution to our portfolio of Health & Safety initiatives assists us in demonstrating our care and attention to our staff’s well-being, which in turn helps us when dealing with customers who prioritise engagement where an employee-focussed approach is adopted.”

Protecting lone worker telecoms engineers in challenging times
Commsworld is a leading UK Telecommunications Network Provider and ISP (Internet Service Provider). With offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow they support thousands of businesses throughout the UK and beyond with their business critical Telecommunication Technologies.
The Problem
Lone working was something we had been looking at for some time, as we began to have more field engineers working on their own. When the Coronavirus Pandemic struck, as a Telecoms business providing critical and key services, our plans around lone working were accelerated because suddenly teams of engineers were no longer able to share vans or attend jobs in pairs.
We also had situations where one person was manning an office and have a number of staff who live alone and were working from home almost exclusively. Added to this, the “misconception” around 5G technology being partly to blame for the virus with masts coming under attack – we had to act to protect our staff.
The Solution
Due to Pick Protection’s flexibility, we were able to opt for a selection of their solutions including their PG Smart app, PG Click device and PG Pebble device. This meant we could provide the most effective solution based on our employees’ job roles.
The solutions fit well with our business model and provide a level of comfort to our staff that we need in order to demonstrate our duty of care. The PG Cloud portal is intuitive and easy to use, I can see real time events and user adoption levels at a glance on the dashboard. I can also run the required reports to share with my board.
We did look at other solutions and engaged with other vendors. In the end, where technological similarities and pricing were on a par, what made us choose Pick was simply that extra level of customer care and attention, from initial discussions through to contract agreement. Being a local business to ours was the icing on the cake.
The Outcome
Feedback from those using the solution so far has been good. It’s very straightforward to use and Engineers in the field definitely feel the level of comfort that they can set periods of risk and know that if anything untoward should happen there is now a mechanism in place to help them.
The SOS alarm button available on all of Pick’s solutions is also appreciated, especially when members of staff are locking up on their own of an evening.
